Theresia, a 47-year-old mother from Tanzania, has faced unimaginable hardships—from losing a child to enduring an abusive marriage and serious health struggles. In March 2024, she was diagnosed with fibroids and underwent surgery, but complications led to a vesicovaginal fistula (VVF).

For months, Theresia battled constant urinary leakage, unable to work or support her surviving child’s education. Despite seeking help at three hospitals, her condition persisted and support from home was nearly nonexistent. However, her church community rallied around her, raising funds for her care.

In February 2025, Theresia arrived at Maternity Africa, where she finally received the surgery she needed. Her operation was a success, and during her recovery, she inspired others by teaching hairdressing and knitting skills.

Today, Theresia is back to her salon work, full of hope for the future. Grateful for the second chance Maternity Africa gave her, she now dreams of becoming an ambassador, helping other women find healing and hope.
