Joyce is 23 years old and is one of seven children. She had an opportunity to go to school up to fourth grade. Following this, she studied tailoring, but was unable to start a business because she had no money. She got married in May 2019 and soon became pregnant.
Joyce did not realise that she was carrying twins. At 32 weeks of pregnancy she started to feel pain, but she didn’t know it was labour.
Over the next day, the pain got worse towards the evening, so Joyce’s family took her to the nearest health facility. There, she was told that she was in labour and she was referred to Maternity Africa’s hospital, Kivulini Maternity Centre.
Joyce arrived at night on the back of a motorcycle. During her examination, it was found out she was carrying twins. Joyce delivered two premature little girls. They weighed 1.45g and 1.53kg.
Joyce is glad and thankful that her babies are doing well and being cared for in the neonatal unit at Kivulini Maternity Centre. She is so happy that she came here for delivery.
Thank you to all our staff who contributed so professionally to the safe delivery and ongoing care of Joyce and these two precious little girls.

I just watched the Kivulini video. Inspiring work. Thanks a lot!
Wow, what a wonderful story! We were introduced to Maternity Africa through our friend Shirley at Dashir. I had brought tiny knitted toques (hats) to TZ and asked Shirley if she knew of a place where they could be used and she immediately suggested Maternity Africa! So glad if they bring a little warmth to a wee one.
