International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. At Kivulini Maternity Centre, we celebrate the contributions that are nurses and their colleagues make, serving the vulnerable and marginalised women in our community every day.

Around 30 nurses work at Maternity Africa. Each one is vital to making childbirth safe. They are on hand, 24/7, providing emergency and ongoing care. They staff all of our departments – maternity, fistula and family planning – and take part in community outreach and screening trips too.

Every day, “nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription.” ~ Val Saintsbury.

Thank you to all our nurses for the important and essential role you play, making childbirth safe.
