Daphne is a Dutch midwife who began her career in a typical Dutch practice which included many home deliveries. In 2010 she travelled to Ethiopia to work in Mota. That was where she lost her heart for Ethiopia and especially for the work in low-resource settings.
The high maternal mortality rate in Ethiopia had a profound impact on her. She believes that working together with the Ethiopians, sharing knowledge and skills is what will raise the standard of maternity care to really make a difference.
After Mota, she worked in Mille and in 2013 moved to Bahir Dar. Working in Ethiopia is not always easy but as the Ethiopians say ‘It is not a problem, it is just a challenge!’
