Maternity Africa reached an exciting milestone with the groundbreaking of the Phaedra Maternity Health Centre in Chamwino, Manchali, Dodoma; a facility that will soon expand access to quality maternal care and fistula treatment for women in the region.
Witnessed by the villagers of Manchali, the ceremony was graced by the Bishop of Central Tanganyika, Rt. Rev. Dickson Chilongani, who led a heartfelt dedication service and served as the Guest of Honour.
Set for completion in early 2027, the upcoming centre is designed to house 40 beds; offering delivery services, an outpatient clinic and a dedicated fistula treatment unit, a critical service for women living with childbirth injuries. Once complete, the Phaedra Maternity Health Centre will serve as a beacon of hope for thousands of women who currently have limited access to quality maternal healthcare.
This project has been made possible through strong and meaningful partnerships. We extend heartfelt thanks to the Barbara May Foundation for their collaboration and deep commitment to women’s health and to The McLellan Foundation, whose generous support is helping transform this vision into reality.
As construction begins, Maternity Africa remains committed to ensuring that the Phaedra Maternity Health Centre becomes a place of healing, safety and new beginnings. This groundbreaking is not just the start of a building, it marks the beginning of changed lives, strengthened families and a healthier community.
Together, we build hope.
Congratulations to everybody involved. A special thank you to the McLellan foundation for making this project possible.
