Women need to give birth safely, regardless of external circumstances.
As Tanzania puts precautions in place to help limit the spread of COVID-19, Maternity Africa continues to provide maternity care for poor women, although fistula surgery is currently suspended.
Maternity Africa’s staff take the situation seriously, washing their hands, maintaining social distancing, and using personal protective equipment. They also wear tee-shirts, encouraging others to follow their lead.
The messages on their tee-shirts read:
Nawa mikono mara nyinge – Wash your hands lots of times
Usigise macho poa na mdomo – Don’t touch eyes, nose or mouth
Epuka msongamano – Escape congestion
