Maternity Africa’s fistula screening team is currently in Dodoma Region, identifying fistula patients in rural areas up to 500km from Kivulini Maternity Centre. The team’s work includes conducting awareness training about obstetric fistula, and informing people that Maternity Africa’s surgeons can cure the condition, free of charge.

Some women suffer from the debilitating condition for over 40 years before they are healed.

This trip lasts for two weeks, and is in preparation for the forthcoming fistula camp (which lasts for 3-4 weeks, during which many women are screened, operated on and cared for) that we plan to take place in February-March.

The picture shows a typical session with Maternity Africa’s team informing people that fistula is treatable.
