International Midwives Day is celebrated every year to commemorate and increase the awareness all over the world about the contribution made by midwives to their patients and towards the health of their nations. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy in more than 50 countries.

Maternity Africa is proud of its midwives who work so hard every day, serving the vulnerable and marginalised women and girls at Kivulini Maternity Centre in Northern Tanzania. Thank you.

Maternity Africa is also delighted to provide the opportunity for birth attendants from neighbouring hospitals to come to Kivulini Maternity Centre to improve their practical midwifery skills. On Friday, a group of 11 students from Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre completed their time with us – one month learning practical skills, and brushing up on theory too. They are pictured completing a final assessment.

We wish each of these students, and indeed our own midwives every best wish and success in their future midwifery careers here in Tanzania, as they also continue making childbirth safe.
