How lovely to celebrate International Women’s Day, warmly welcoming more than 25 ladies who arrived this week. Kivulini Maternity Centre is about to commence its March 2019 fistula ‘camp’ – a period of intense activities of preparing almost 40 patients for surgery, operating on them and giving them the time and attention that they need to rest and recuperate and feel cared for. At this morning’s Devotions, they were encouraged that Kivulini Maternity Centre is a place for them – where they can find rest, hope, healing and confidence. It is also a day that we salute, celebrate and appreciate all of our women staff who work so hard every day to meet the needs of these precious patients.

I once interviewed a surgeon at HEAL Africa Hospital in Goma, DRC about his work with fistula repair. He said that it is the closest thing to resurrection that he has ever seen. The women come in with shame, pain and isolation. They leave with physical, emotional and social healing. Every blessing on the work you will be doing.
Thank you Connie for your encouragement. Yes, fistula repair surgery is very special, and can contribute greatly to a lady’s ability for a more normal life with huge dignity.
