Moving on after Moving in
One year ago this week, the MA team moved into The Kivulini Maternity Centre. It was still a building site surrounded by rubble One year on, 6 of that original team are still here and have been joined by others to make a team of 71. Its been a remarkable and challenging adventure. We recruited all our new staff in February, gave them a 2-month orientation programme and completed the build in April, In May we rolled out the first of 3 fistula camps, in June we opened officially on the 9th and straight after this we opened the maternity and family planning programmes. Since then we have successfully done 507 deliveries, 1467 antenatal visits, 579 family planning consultations and 84 fistula and related birth injury surgeries.
Thank you to all the staff who set the programme up and those that now run it. Thanks also to all the women who have trusted us at this vulnerable time of their lives and have believed in the name of Maternity Africa.
A Big thanks to all our donors and supporters who have made this year a reality and we are looking forward to making even bigger strides this year.
Asante Sana
MA team.
