Meet Saumu, 18, second-born with three siblings.
Saumu came from a village to town to look for a job. She works as a housemaid. Her parents live in the village, where they have a small farm to meet their basic needs.
Saumu left the village after completing her primary education. Her parents could not afford for her to attend secondary school.
Saumu’s boss has a house boy who got Saumu pregnant. Saumu’s parents rejected her once she became pregnant, saying that it was a big shame to them and their community, and that that they do not recognize Saumu and don’t want to be involved with her.
Saumu came to Kivulini Maternity Centre on 25 January 2021. The next day she delivered a 3kg boy by Caesarean Section. She hopes to continue her house work after recovering.
