Rahel M. Madeleke, a 27-year-old mother of four, endured six years of silent suffering after developing an obstetric fistula during the traumatic birth of her first child in 2017. Isolated by her community and misunderstood by those around her, Rahel lived in shame and silence until a chance encounter during her fourth pregnancy changed everything.
During a routine check-up, a nurse recognized her condition and connected her with our fistula outreach team. Soon after giving birth, Rahel came to Kivulini and received treatment.
Today, Rahel is filled with hope. She plans to start a small snack business and tailoring, the skills she got at the camp through our rehabilitation program. She promises to become a fistula ambassador in her community spreading the word that fistula is treatable and no woman should suffer in silence.
Rahel is deeply grateful to the medical team and donors who supported her care and she promises to share her story to inspire and help others.
