Susan is 42, Martin’s wife. Martin, 58, has three wives and 21 children. During recent outreach in rural Tanzania, Maternity Africa’s team met Susan during its fistula education programme, and she was discovered to have a fistula. After talking with Susan and her relatives, she agreed to come to Kivulini Maternity Centre for treatment. She came and was cured. While she was in the hospital, her husband visited her every day. Maternity Africa’s outreach team recently returned to Susan’s village to see how she is. Her husband surprised our team – he invited his relatives, neighbours and village leaders to welcome us. He told his friends, “I have never seen this, treating somebody and following up how she is doing. Thank you very much and God bless you all and Maternity Africa.” We had a wonderful opportunity to educate 47 people invited to the celebration. Martin promised to be a good fistula ambassador in his community, bringing more patients to Maternity Africa for care. |
