FIGO is the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. It brings together professional societies of obstetricians and gynecologists on a global basis. FIGO is dedicated to the improvement of women’s health and rights and to the reduction of disparities in healthcare available to women and newborns, as well as to advancing the science and practice of obstetrics and gynecology.
FIGO leads global programme activities, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.
Maternity Africa is delighted that its Founder, Dr Andrew Browning AM, was recently appointed as Chairman of the FIGO Committee for Fistula and Genital Trauma. The appointment recognises Andrew’s work and research into treating and repairing obstetric fistula, including for vulnerable and marginalised women in Tanzania and elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Thank you Andrew for all of your dedication, commitment and hard work, making childbirth safe.
