Christina joined Maternity Africa April 2018 as part of the team of three cooks responsible for the catering needs of all the patients and the staff at the centre.
Christina is originally from a rural area within Manyara and has been in the catering industry for 11 years. When she was 14, a kind Indian lady took interest in her and started to teach her cooking skills. Due to this encouragement and mentorship, she progressed over the years and learned the trade. She was able to progress and work within the tourist industry.
It’s been a joy to have Christina on the team and her compassion and interest in the fistula patients have been so appreciated by the women themselves. As the project develops, we will be looking for opportunities to use Kristina in an education and empowerment project that will bring hope and healing to the women through holistic care and skills training during the fistula camps.
